After 3 months of interning as a DevOps engineer

Becoming "familiar" with this environment

This is my current state. Let's head back 4 months before it all began.

Sometimes, in between my duties as a lab assistant, I catch myself wondering: where else will my path take me? Naturally, equipped with the IT skills I have. Interest is the strongest thing I hold right now. I’ve started falling in love with mobile app development using Flutter, thinking that maybe I’ll land my first internship as a mobile developer. I also enjoy backend development, so perhaps a project or internship in backend awaits me as well. Who knows what lies ahead. Ever since the beginning of the year, I’ve applied to several places for an internship. Unfortunately, sks conversion is only available in the 7th semester, which is next semester. I’ve asked around endlessly to anyone for internship leads, to the point where I feel a bit pessimistic at times.

Right now, I feel like I'm climbing a mountain, unsure if I'll ever reach the caldera. Like reading a book, uncertain on which page I'll finally finish.

Yet again, interest remains my strongest drive. I believe I need to see that opportunities for a mobile programmer are not impossible, even if they are tough. This led me to ask one of my lecturers for internship references. They shared that a company was currently opening internships for a few roles: Project Manager, Front-end, DevOps, and Graphic Designer. Reading the graphic design role on the form made me chuckle a bit, because skill-wise, I'd likely get accepted given the portfolio I’ve built over the last 3+ years. But that was then. Right now, let's focus on IT.

Out of those three roles, I was only interested in DevOps. I figured that as more people build web based applications, the need for backend infrastructure to support them grows proportionally. DevOps felt like a logical next step. I also invited a few of my friends to apply. During my previous internship as a graphic designer, I didn't have any friends around, which felt quite lonely. So I thought, if I can bring friends along, why not? Just like when I applied for internships earlier in the year, I applied the mindset of

update cv → apply → forget about it.

There was a reason for this: since I had no experience in operations outside of practical lab work, I felt my chances of getting accepted for this internship were very low.

I'm having lunch right now, I'll continue this later.
